Filtration of process gases

During gas filtration, solid particles such as dust from the production process or flue gas are captured from the stream. The result depends on the properties of the gas, dust, filter medium and the method of regeneration.

The gas passes through the textile element. Particles are captured on its surface or in a layer of dust that gradually forms on it. This layer can increase the efficiency of the capture, but at the same time it imposes a greater resistance to the current. Therefore, the filter elements are cleaned at specified intervals and the captured dust is removed from the chamber.

What decides the design

During the technical assessment, the following is monitored:

  • gas composition and temperature, including operating fluctuations
  • humidity and the risk of condensation
  • type, size, concentration and abrasiveness of the dust
  • volumetric flow rate and required emission limit
  • filter area, chamber dimensions and method of regeneration

Regeneration and operation

During regeneration, trapped dust is released and media permeability is restored. Depending on the design, industrial hose filters use pulse cleaning, backwashing or mechanical knocking. The method and the interval must correspond to the dust and the medium: insufficient cleaning increases the pressure loss, too intensive can shorten the life of the element.

The medium is only part of the functional element. The dimensions, seams, bottom, top end, seal and connection to the support basket must correspond to the filter and the method of regeneration. A leak or improper seating can allow current to bypass and worsen separation.

How to recognize the problem

Monitor the development of pressure loss, regeneration frequency, emissions and element life. Deviation from normal operation may indicate clogging, cleaning failure, leakage, media damage or change in dust load. Compare the values ​​with the equipment manufacturer's recommendation and operating history; one symptom alone does not determine the cause.
