Industrial filtration

Laboratory tests

The test makes sense especially in case of premature damage, clogging, leakage or material change. First, we will assess together whether a laboratory measurement is really needed.

What are lab tests for?

Laboratory tests help verify the properties of filter textiles or filter cloth before being put into service and how the material behaves after loading in a real application. It is not just a general measurement of parameters, but a technical basis for decision-making in material selection, fabric construction and solving operational problems.

Used methods and equipment

Incoming inspection of materials

We use common laboratory equipment, analytical balances, laboratory dishes and solvents to determine the surface weight of filter fabrics and to roughly determine the chemical composition of the fibers used.

Breathability measurement We use the

breathability measurement device to evaluate the behavior of flat filter fabrics and non-woven fabrics according to the relevant test procedures.

Optical Microscopy

We use an optical microscope to determine the textile weave, assess the type of fibers and determine the finish of woven materials. This helps in identifying the design of the material and comparing it to the desired solution.

External specialized analyzes

If necessary, we also follow up on external specialized methods, for example scanning electron microscopy for a more detailed assessment of damage or trapped particles.

Examination of filter fabrics sample under microscope

We assess the measurement result together with the construction of the material and the conditions in which the filter element works.

Breathability Measurements and Test Standards

Breathability measurements are important when assessing filtration permeability, cake formation and material adherence to a specific application. For flat filter textiles and non-woven fabrics, we base ourselves on commonly used test procedures.

The standards and procedures used include in particular:

  • EN ISO 9237
  • DIN 53887
  • WSP 70.1 for flat filter textiles
  • EN ISO 9073-15 for non-woven fabrics

Analysis of damage and operational problems

Laboratory tests are of practical importance especially when it is necessary to find out why the filter cloth does not last in operation, why the filtration behavior changes or why clogging, leakage or other non-standard phenomenon occurs. In these cases, we follow up on visual inspection, microscopic assessment and data from operation.

External or follow-up analyzes can help, for example, with:

  • detailed damage evaluation filter cloths during the separation process
  • by identifying the places of greatest damage to filter fabrics
  • optical and elemental analysis of captured particles
